NRA Firearm Museum

NRA’s National Firearms Museum is bringing some of the greatest rifles that once ruled the firing line at Creedmoor to the Nation’s Gun Show at Chantilly, VA.

Fired at distances out to 1,000 yards, single-shot target rifles from Sharps and Remington were used in competition at the first National Rifle Association range at Creedmoor, Long Island.  While little remains of this shooting venue today, you can see examples of the long range Remington and Sharps rifles used by the American team when they defeated the Irish in the world championship on September 26, 1874.  This first competition resulted in many subsequent matches, including the first Palma or Centennial competition in 1876, and a miniature Palma trophy, awarded to a team captain, will also be part of this one-time only exhibition.

Located at the NRA HQ building at 11250 Waples Mill Road in Fairfax, VA, the National Firearms Museum is open daily, free of charge, and showcases over 3,000 historic firearms that help tell the story of firearms, freedom and the American experience.

Just six miles away from the Chantilly Expo Center, the museum galleries include a special exhibit space devoted to Hollywood Guns and a gift shop filled with souvenirs.  For more information, check out our website at www.nramuseums.com, call (703) 267-1600 or e-mail nfmstaff@nrahq.org.
