Governor Northam announces gun control package to be introduced in next session

​Governor Ralph Northam has announced a comprehensive package of legislation that he claims will prevent gun violence and improve the safety of Virginia’s citizens and communities.

He said the package includes measures to require universal background checks; establish an Extreme Risk Protective Order; reinstate Virginia’s One Handgun a Month law; prohibit individuals subject to final protective orders from possessing firearms; ban assault firearms; prevent children from accessing firearms; and require individuals to report lost or stolen firearms to law enforcement.

Extreme Risk Protective Orders are also known Red Flag Laws.  Red Flag Laws 
1) allow an anonymous person to claim you are unfit to own guns
2) you have no right to know your accuser
3) they can do it repeatedly
4) the police can show up and take your guns without notification, normally done in the middle of night
5) you have to go to court to get your guns back, 
6) lawyer at your expense, unless you plan on losing
7) could take months or years to get your guns back
8) guns could be damaged or lost
9) the person who accuses you goes to court to testify against you but you are not notified and cannot be present.  
10) Anyone can accuse you. 
Red Flag Laws go against every principle our country stands for! Anonymous  accusation, not allowed to know the accuser, presumed guilty before innocent, property taken by government without any notification, police showing up at your house in the middle of night, can be done repeatedly. Puts the police in a terrible position. Imagine this law for other property, any other 'crime' - they are literally treating all gun owners with such contempt and  disgust that their prejudice self-evident.

Presidential Executive Orders

As far as Gun Shows go nothing has changed. 

On the ATF website the top of the home page is a link to the new publication, "Do I Need A License To Buy and Sell Firearms?" On Page 2 it says, "The guidance set forth herein has no regulatory effect..." This is because it must go through our Congress. Plus, everything else reads the same.  It seems scary and onerous, because it is and it is what we have been dealing with along. Bottom line, if you are in the business of selling firearms you need to get a license just like before.  If you are selling your personal collection or are a collector improving your collection you can make an occasional sale and / or purchase. All persons who transfer firearms, regardless of whether they are engaged in the business of dealing in firearms, must ensure that any transfers are in compliance with federal, state and local laws.

NFA Trusts now require background checks for members of the trust.  That is a good thing.  Chief Law Enforcement Office (CLEO) no longer needs to authorize NFA transfers, etc. just must be notified.  That is great!

Lost Firearms in Transit - Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) must report it to ATF the lost or stolen firearm if FFL and if he has knowledge and within 48 hours once FFL has knowledge.

Mental Health - The $500 million for the mental health budget in 2017 fiscal year is GREAT!  We have been saying that we have a Mental Health Crisis in this country for decades. It must go through Congress and it needs to be DONE RIGHT! 

We need to care for those that cannot care for themselves and while doing so we can do mental health threat assessments to assess whether the person is a threat to himself or others.  We hope this is balanced approach and not some effort just to remove firearms.  People who lose loved ones or go through dramatic life events such as divorce and seek help for depression should not be punished and become fearful of seeking help.  That will have the reverse of the desired effect.  Unnecessary targeting of our military service people is strongly offensive.  We need people that will serve.

NICS - National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)
Upgrading this system and hiring more people is great but they also need to focus on and increase budgets for the Point of Contact (POC) States that initialize that background check.  These states go down far more often and for hours.  Then FFL's lose many sales and some purchasers, not wishing to wait 3 hours like this last Saturday afternoon in Chantilly, VA, go through private sales, therefore purchases that initially would have gone through a background check do not.

The rectangular writing desk is massively made of oak. In the middle, there is an embedded leather-covered writing surface. The chair from the writing desk is also made of oak, the seat and the backrest are covered with brown leather, with the feet are resting on steel ball bearings.

The valet stand is made of nut wood while the tie stand is made of brass. The feet are placed on wheels. On the bottom lies two brand stamps "Eigentum des fuehrers und Reichskanzlers" (Property of the Leader and Imperial Chancellor) as well as a sovereign eagle.

Check out John Wayne's personal 1932 38/44 heavy duty lettered Smith and Wesson pair of custom gold, silver, and ruby guns with matching rig at the Pittsburgh ​Gun Show!  This is one of the many highlights at the Milestone Auctions January 2018 Premiere Historic Gun and Military auction.

On Display at the Nation's Gun Show is an
exhibit of early American items from the
founding ofour Nation including a George
Washington Inaugural button dated
March 4th, 1789along with early, original
flintlock weapons- one signed and dated
1791, and a powder horn that belonged to
"IACOB MORE" dated 1776. There are also
several sets of original flintlock dueling
pistols. Also displayed is an original
portrait of Jefferson Davis along with
original Civil War items including a Colt
Dragoon, and a complete musket set with
cartridge box, belt and bayonet. Then, in spirit with our new President elect, a picture of Donald Trump displayed along with a 50 Cal. Barrett and a couple custom 1911's.

Also on display is an exceptional 1803 Harper's Ferry, along with an 1812 dated musket that belonged to George Washington Kinsolving in Virginia in the war of 1812. The Kinsolvings original 1100+ acres was located next to Thomas Jefferson home at Monticello from 1790 on- the original home place and graveyard still exist to this day, west of present day UVA. Many other items of historical interest.
